Match Report

Bury 1 Luton Town 1
Nationwide League Division 2
Saturday 4th November 2000

Hatters goalkeeper Nathan Abbey had an inspired afternoon, making a succession of fine saves and denying the Shakers a deserved win in the process. Despite failing to win the encounter, Bury appear to have recovered from their recent slump and performed very industriously, but still lack incisiveness in front of goal.

Adrian Littlejohn gave Bury an early second half lead with an outrageous strike with the outside of his boot and the game was set fair for a Bury landslide but the rampant Shakers were kept at bay thanks to Abbey and two goal line clearances. Finnish international Petri Helin bagged an equaliser to provide the visitors with an unlikely point on an afternoon when they could easily have conceded six goals. Shakers boss Andy Preece withdrew both full backs and ended up with four forwards, but even so, a winner could not be found.
