Wigan Athletic 1 Bury 0 Despite the disappointment of their fifth consecutive defeat, this was a much improved show from the Shakers. The defence had reverted to looking solid after a calamitous error prone spell and at times Bury played some decent football despite the appalling conditions. It was though, from a misplaced Nick Daws pass that Andy Liddell was able to speed down his right wing, where he nutmegged assistant manager Steve Redmond to set up the only goal of the game for Ian Kilford. But it could have been so different had Adrian Littlejohn been able to put away a very early chance with only the keeper to beat, and it is symptomatic of the lack of confidence in the forwards that the Latics Roy Carroll was able to beat Littlejohn's shot away. In a game of few clear cut chances, Carroll denied Sam Collins an equaliser with a fine save, but despite putting the home defence under terrific pressure, Bury were unable to claw their way back into the game. by Paul Forrest Shakers Team: Patrick Kenny, Chris Swailes, Steve Redmond, Sam Collins, Lee Unsworth, Chris Billy, Paul Reid, Nick Daws, Dean Barrick, Adrian Littlejohn, Andy Preece.
